Movie review: The Flight Before Christmas

25 Sep

Alright…

I watched this show on a rather quite and boring night. The storyline was good. Decent flow. Nice animation.

BUT there was something that didn’t cross alot of people’s mind.

Niko’s mom told him that she met his father one night and he took her flying, after which he just left and never came back. So that meant that Niko’s mom had a one-night-stand with a stag and after that conceived him. And he never met his father since – well, not until after the 2nd quarter where he went to search for his dad. Oh… so this is a story of an illegitimate reindeer who was conceived after his parent’s one-night-stand who at the end of the day realises exactly what he wants and the true meaning of family/parent. If you take this into consideration, it doesn’t become very kid-friendly but kids being kids, will they asks all these?

My Fujitsu S-6421 so far

19 Jul

How’s the notebook holding up so far?

Great!

No issues with the new keyboard.

My usage is fairly heavy and the notebook sleeps only when i am asleep, driving or away. As for the fairly hot fan, it doesn’t really bother me as I have got used to it and have adjusted myself to it (avoiding it when i am not in an airconditioned room). Battery life is average although it could be better but all that needs to be done is to plan ahead (look out for a power socket, use less or use it for 3 hours then do something else). Screen hasn’t failed me – really bright and sharp. Windows 7 is good but i made a mistake not stating the version I wanted when i ordered my notebook from the main distributor. I rarely use the fujitsu mouse now, not wrist and finger friendly. Much prefer my logitech. The HDD space of 320GB is good. I can save lots of things on my HDD and not worry about running out of space. I made two copies of the system recovery disk. I think its important to make some recovery CD should something go wrong. I also back up my data weekly.

I have to date three sets of 320GB HDD and one 80GB HDD for the purpose of backing up data. One can never be too careful. All electronics are prone to data failure and after years of  dealing with data lose, i have learnt my lesson.

my requirements: All I want is a work-horse similar to the thinkpads i used to have. I’m quite pleased with this fujitsu. Size is just nice, weight is just nice. And I’m used to the clicky keyboard. Seems to be able to take hard knocks so far.

Movie Review : New Moon

7 Jul

This one really feels like an extended version of the hit series Twilight. Since I didn’t watch Twilight I didn’t really know much of what was going on but it was okay, interesting enough. The casts? Very pretty (that includes the guys). A very teen Vampire show (lah). Plot was alright. As mentioned, its like watching a very long tv series of Twilight.

Can i put the spoilers here? The last 2 minutes showed Bella being proposed by Edward. She didn’t give her reply in time for the closing credits of the movie to role in SO, expect a continuation in either the series OR another movie.

So… don’t hit me!

LOL.

Movie review : 7 adventures of sinbad

6 Jul

Er.. i think I don’t want to waste space on a review. The only thing i’ll say is that for $500,000 budget under 2 weeks, the Director did a credible job. Need to work on the disjointed story line a bit more.

My take > The Book of Eli

3 Jul

I watched The Book of Eli and initially i didn’t quite understand the show, having found the first 20 minutes slow but as i watched it the story is one about faith, the 30 year faith of a blind man to keep the only existing bible safe. He walked by the “sight” of faith for 30 years, not really knowing where it’ll lead him or his destiny until it was his time only knowing that God told him to walk West. It was set in a time post-apocalypse where after much abundance, scarcity became the norm. The world became lawless.

This show echoes a theme that is inherent in our spiritual life, that is all are made out for a purpose driven life (what is that? It’s for you to find out). When the curator asked about the condition of the bible, Eli responded “It’s beat up but it’ll do the job”. The Word lives even if it’s not on paper. The power of the Word is unfathomable.

The movie’s film in an under saturated colour – monotones. Fight scenes are fairly graphic –limbs being chopped off.

I would watch the movie again and this time without all the distractions around me. Good watch.

*yes, there were some that slammed the religious undertones  of this movie but i like it. I think its a good change. A good reminder of what faith is about.

Movie Review : Everybody’s Fine

10 Jun

Robert De Niro stars as a widow who goes on a cross-country trip to see all four of his children when they couldn’t make it for the weekend. He travelled despite having a heart condition. The story unfolds as he goes from state to state and he starts to realise what his family has been keeping from him.

All I can say is that to those who have been neglecting their parents, watch this show. It will let you see things from the perspective from your parent.

This is a good movie but get your tissue paper ready. It will change your perspective.

Just remember this, in your parents eyes, you will forever be their little boy/girl no matter what.

Review > Alice In Wonderland

23 Mar

I finally watched it (but in 2-D cos Mark Kermode said it doesn’t make any difference to watch it in 3-D).

The CGI’s really good. Insects, flowers and other stuff seems to be very close to the description in the book. I’ve read the books back to back, inside out and many times over the years (Alice In Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass).

Mia Wasikowska is okay as Alice. Sullen looking at times but somehow fits the surroundings.

Johnny Depp excels in those half-drunken, half mad roles (similar to Pirates of the Caribbean, Charlie & the Chocolate factory and even Edward Scissorshand). All the madness from all Depp’s films roled into one. But he plays a very convincing Mad Hatter and no one else would have played it better. I would say, same goes for the Red Queen played by Helena Bonham Carter. I always enjoyed watching Depp and Carter together. They make great madness.  Anne Hathaway is good but i am not used to seeing her blond-white. Matt Lucas is superb!!

You’ll never miss the voice of Stephen Fry and they drew the cat exactly like depicted in the book. Timothy Spall as the caterpillar and his voice reminds me of Alan Rickman. Same drawl. And yes, the two chaps starred in Harry Potter. For a while I thought it was Rickman’s voice. Really. And I had to google to check.

I thoroughly enjoyed the white hare. Really cute. The doormouse’s was a mad as the Mad Hatter.

Overall, it was a good movie. Plot’s decent. Good flow. If you have read the books (the original ones, okay!) then you will really enjoy the movie because Tim Burton has brought to life alot of well-loved characters from the book.

Good movie – Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner

25 Oct

Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner is a 1967 drama film starring Spencer Tracy, Sidney Poitier and Katharine Hepburn, and featuring Hepburn’s niece Katharine Houghton.
Its about interracial relationships and back in those days (50s) things like these were frown on. But these days, its very very common.

Anyway, you can read more about the show at imdb http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0061735/.

I found the show to be quite interesting and it touches on the race topic very well. You know, at the end of the day, underneath that skin of ours we are all the same lah.

We all have pigmentation problems.
